International Balloon Festivals

Hot air ballooning festivals are very popular events that happen all over the world, with each of them attracting hundreds of pilots and thousands of visitors. They are a fun day out or nice weekend break with the family, with many holding other events as well as the balloon flights, including music concerts, food stalls, bird of prey displays, and craft stalls, and lots of other great things to do.

The Albuquerque International Balloon festival

This USA festival is the most famous balloon festival in the World, attracting over 750 pilots and hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. As well as most famous it is also the largest in the World, and has become a major showcase for New Mexican culture and music after featuring a number of cultural exhibitions. The festival also has a huge number of special shaped balloons.

The Canberra Balloon Festival

The biggest in Australia, the Canberra balloon festival runs annually for nine days each April. Boasting some of the most unique balloons out of all the festivals worldwide, they launch daily from the yard of The Old Parliament House. The festival is held during autumn when the average temperature is just 20 Degrees Celsius, so no need to worry about the heat!

The Bristol International Balloon Festival

One of the largest balloon festivals in the World and definitely the largest in the UK, the Bristol International Balloon festival launches over 100 balloons at a time, and attracts over 100,000 people a day and runs for three days over a weekend. The night glow is the most popular attraction, where the balloons are launch in the dark, and choreographed to glow and light up in time to music. The festival also has craft and food stalls, and live music.

The Saxonia International Balloon Festival

Held in Leipzig, Germany, every year during the summer, The Saxonia International Balloon Festival is considered one of the largest in Europe. This festival also holds lots of really fun competitions for balloonists, including seeing who can fly as far as possible – who knows where you’ll end up!

The Philippine International Balloon Festival

Held every year in Pampanga, the Philippine International festival is the biggest aviation sports event in the whole of the Philippines, and annually has over 100 balloonists taking part. Held over three days, over 100,000 people attend, and the festival is renowned for also holding a lot of air sports shows for visitors, including skydiving events, small plane fly-by’s, and choreographed kite flying.
