The Greatest Dave Matthews Concert Performance Of All Time

Saturday, March 31st, 2012

By Jim Blevins

As a mainstay in the American culture, few bands have had the staying power of the Dave Matthews Band. With an almost cult-like following, Dave Matthews Band is able to bring fans to its concerts year after year, easily being one of the highest-grossing bands in the industry today. One of the huge draws of attending a Dave Matthews concert is the fact that no two shows are ever alike One reason people go to a Dave Matthews concert time after time is because no two shows are ever the same — however, there is one moment that stands out as the best, most memorable Dave Matthews Band concert moment of all time. This moment was the time that Dave played “Bartender” in April 2002.

Most Dave Matthews Band concerts are considered memorable by their fans, however, the fans who were at the April 7, 2002 concert at Boston’s Fleet Center experienced the moment that no one will ever forget. When Dave sang the song “Bartender” at this concert, he turned the typical ballad into a plea to God — a God that Dave himself doesn’t believe in — giving all of his fans a tiny glimpse into himself as a person, a small peak at his soul.

Usually during this song during Dave Matthews Band concerts, he’ll simply mumble through the song’s verses which are a ballad that lasts for twenty minutes. But on April 7, 2002, Dave made sure to sing this song in perfect clarity — it was a moment so powerful it was engraved in the hearts, minds and souls of every person there and has since become a moment that all Dave Matthews Band fans treasure and will continue to treasure for years to come.

Even though this has been a moment that has been passed down to fans throughout the years, those who are true Dave Matthews Band fans will have their own favorite moments from virtually every concert they attend. Because the Dave Matthews Band is known for its unique shows that cannot be replicated, fans continue to go see them play live year after year. With each show, fans leave with a new favorite memory and moment, a time that they will never forget and possibly even a new favorite song by the band. Dave Matthews Band is a band with staying power that has been loved by generations of music lovers, and one the best moments for any Dave Matthews Band fan is attending a Dave Matthews concert. Fans will continue to celebrate their favorite live moments for years to come.

My Favorite Games On A Charter Bus

Friday, July 15th, 2011

Sometimes it’s hard trying to pass the time on a charter bus. The longer the trip, the more crazy you can get sitting on the bus, especially if you aren’t with friends. You need to keep yourself occupied, whether it be with books, video games, or a movie. For me, it’s all about keeping my brain active, for as long as possible at least. Instead of carrying a million different books and electronic devices, I just take my smartphone. It has everything I need and most of the charter bus companies I use have outlets so I can keep it charged the entire trip.

When I first start out on the bus, my mind is the most alert and active. This is when I opt for challenging games like Sudoku, Words with Friends, and Cut the Rope. Each game actually requires me to use that brain of mine. Sudoku can is often the most challenging, unless you’re only doing one or two star puzzles. Words with Friends has become one of the most popular games in the app world and even if none of your friends are online, you can challenge players from around the country. The object of Cut the Rope is ultimately get a piece of candy attached to a rope across the level to a little creature awaiting to eat it. You have to be quick and understand a little bit about physics to know which rope to cut when.

As I get a little more tired, I might switch to Whirly Word. You’re given six letters and you have to figure out all the different words you can make using just those letters. It’s a nice challenge that helps you expand your vocabulary are well. Another game that requires a little thinking without tiring your brain out too much is Angry Birds. This is one of the most downloaded apps and it’s not hard to see why. For just two dollars you can unlock dozens of challenging levels. You could be on your charter bus for days and still not beat that game.

But after awhile, I just want something fun and easy to play. My brain doesn’t want to work so hard to play a game. That’s when I move on to Tap Tap Revenge which is the equivalent of Guitar Hero or Rock Band but for your thumbs. Several artists even have their own versions so you can exclusively play their songs. This also gives me my music fill for the day! Doodle Jump requires a minimal tilt of the phone as your player hops from platform to platform without falling off or being attacked by an enemy.

And as I approach the home stretch of the charter bus ride, I end with Nyan Cat which requires no effort whatsoever. I just let the little cat fly around in space and before I know it, I’ve arrived at my destination.

DAB Digital Radio

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

A few weeks back I looked at the advantages of Digital TV over conventional terrestrial TV and concluded for the small cost of upgrade that it was certainly worth the small investment of £50 or so in order to receive the new high quality digital stations. This argument was strengthened by the fact that before long conventional TV transmissions will be terminated and so the only way to continue to receive TV would be through one of the methods mentioned in the article.

That particular instalment of Click prompted a number of questions regarding Digital Radio and whether I thought that was a worthwhile investment or not at this stage in its development. This would usually be a question that I wouldn’t be qualified to answer but ever since a friend of mine purchased a DAB radio for his car I have also been toying with the idea of taking the plunge and buying a DAB car radio for myself and hence have done a bit of background research on the subject.

I intend no offence towards Gemini FM here but after living in Cardiff for a year of my life and enjoying a number of high quality local radio stations I have found the choice in Torbay somewhat limited by comparison. Fortunately we do live in a DAB covered area so the purchase of a digital radio would give access to a far greater range of stations including Core, Virgin, SBN, Life, Kiss, Galaxy, 1Xtra, 6 Music, The Storm along with digital versions stations you would conventionally receive in lower quality FM transmission such as Gemini and Radio One.

There are receivers available to suit most applications; you can buy a DAB radio for your car, computer and existing stereo system as well as starting fresh and purchasing a portable radio or full standalone system which includes DAB capabilities as just one of the features. Prices do vary obviously depending on the format that you choose but to give you an idea you would probably be looking at starting prices of around £80 for a portable player and £200 for an in car player.

Those looking to buy a unit that isn’t going to be moved around the country won’t really have much too worry about DAB signal strength as it is my understanding that Torbay is very well covered by DAB transmitters. Those who are looking for a portable solution; for example radio player in a car may find themselves from time to time dropping out of DAB coverage as they roam the UK but in this situation the player will just switch back to operating in FM mode until you re-enter a DAB area. Of course new transmitters are being erected across the UK on a weekly basis so soon there shouldn’t be any areas that aren’t covered.

It should be explained that the advantages of digital over analogue just stop at just offering a wider selection of stations but also that those you do receive should be of better sound quality. A number of additional benefits are also available on some models such as being able to see what song is going to be played next and most impressively the ability to rewind and record live radio onto memory card. I should also mention that DAB radios do require special aerials and that although these will almost always be sold with the radio please do check before making a purchase.

Maui Whale Watching On The Next Vacation

Monday, March 28th, 2011

Whale watching in Maui is great fun and a must when visiting the Island of Romance. No Hawaiian vacation is complete without getting the opportunity to see beautiful and majestic humpback whales. There are so many ways to take advantage of whale watching, but there are a few things that are important to know before heading out on a whale watching adventure.

While in Maui, whale watching you will see only humpback whales which are the fifth largest whales in the world. The pods of whales that come to Maui spend their summers in the Northern Pacific near Alaska. In the fall these same whales migrate to the waters near Hawaii to give birth. Because the whales travel very close to the shore, Maui is a great place to get up close and personal with them.

Maui whale watching is great because there are over 3,500 humpback whales that come to the islands each year to give birth. This makes Maui one of the primary mating and birthing places for the whales.

There are many ways to see whales even from the shores in Hawaii. Misty vapors spouting up could be a whale, also seeing large splashes is a good sign there is a whale. There are also many whale watching cruises where tourists can get up close and personal with some whales. To see whales within about 10 minutes, be sure to do a boat tour on the subject. Maui whale watching can happen anytime from December to May, but the peak months for seeing whales are January, February, March, and April. Most of the whale cruises will guarantee that their customers will see whales out on a trip, this is how likely it is to spot a while during these peak times. Depending on the tour guide, some of these cruises will be much more educating and entertaining than others.

Whale watching in Maui is best and safest from about 100 yards away. This means that the boat cannot approach the whale, but it is ok for the whales to approach the boats and often they do. It is not uncommon or unusual for a whale to come up to a boat or swim right underneath one. Many cruises will also offer a period of hydrophone singing where customers are able to hear the beautiful calling of male whales with a special under water microphone.

Eat and Drink in Ft. Lauderdale

Monday, March 21st, 2011

Fort Lauderdale might be just the answer to your vacation this year. It’s every vacationer’s paradise . It’s got the sun, fun, and great food. Sounds good but you’re not sure where to go? You’re in luck. After hearing from our members on places they suggest and then adding in my own two cents, I have come up with the must-see and must-do list in Fort Lauderdale. Whether you’re traveling as a couple or with the family, we have you covered.

Known for its sun and fun atmosphere it is also home to great food, sites and the arts. There so much to do in Fort Lauderdale but you’ll want to plan ahead, otherwise you might miss out. In the daytime, you’ll want to hit the beach for sure. You’ll love the beaches with the soft white sand and clear warm water . The water is warm enough to swim in year round. Be careful during the summer months, the sun is really hot. Even though it might feel cool at times with the ocean breeze, the sun will surely burn you . When you want to take a break from the sun, you can head on over to the mall right down the road. You’ll find all the top names in fashion and maybe you can spruce up that tired beachwear of yours. On one of the days of your vacation we suggest getting some sandwiches and heading on over to the Riverwalk for a picnic. It’s a beautiful area and the chance to sit back and relax and enjoy the scenic views of South Florida. Another great daytime activity is the Museum of Discovery. It’s filled with lots of hands-on activities for the kids to try and excite their brains.

At night, it’s time to have fun. Head down to A1A! Get ready to eat, drink and dance the night way. We can suggest the “Bait Shack” right on the beach; the perfect spot for cold beer, tasty drinks and food. Want something a little more rowdy and wild? The “Elbo Room” Happy Hour might just be it. At “Mango’s” you can dance the night away to some great live music.

It’s time to eat and South Florida has the answer to your appetite no matter what you are looking for. There are many places serving everything from Mexican to Brazilian fare to eat but we can certainly recommend the “Canyon Southwest Café” for inexpensive and tasty food and great margaritas. And for the carnivores of the bunch, head over to “Chima Brazilian Steakhouse” to over indulge you in lots and lots of barbequed beef. But remember, if you don’t learn to put up the red stop sign, they will keep coming to your table with more and more meat to eat. It’s so tasty; it’s hard to turn down.

And just when you thought Fort Lauderdale was only about partying and eating, there’s actually a vibrant art community about an hour away in Miami. Take a break from the beach and check out the art galleries, great theatre and music. Go see a live show. The art has a heavy Cuban influence in it. You’ll have lots to choose from all over the city.

Fort Lauderdale offers so much for a vacation. We never even got to mention the fantastic fishing or sporting events. If you haven’t decided where to go this year for vacation, we can heartily recommend the well-rounded area of South Florida. It’s a wonderful place for a couple or family-filled with great beaches, great food and drink, and a break from everyday life. Whether you book a hotel room or your timeshare using RCI.com or Interval World as long as you get to Fort Lauderdale you’re bound to have a great family vacation.

Add Some Excitement to a Beach Party with Big Island Luau Shows

Friday, March 11th, 2011

There is something very different and special about Big Island Luau shows when added to a party event. Best of all with proper planning and some imagination and creativity local resources can be turned into a party that friends and family will never forget. Begin with a warm, tropical party invitation. Get Hawaiian leis for the guests. Use postcards with beach scenes as the invitations and slip the postcards and leis in a large mailing envelop. Get several inflatable palm trees and on the day of the party put one in the front yard or at the front door to signal guests that they have the right address.

The ambiance of the Big Island luau shows is easy to create for the guests. For a backyard party set several of the inflatable palm trees around. Set up one or two small tents or even patio umbrellas and a table; decorate it with silk flowers and palm leaves to mimic a tiki bar. This is where the cocktails and mocktails can be made. Set several whole pineapples and coconuts around to add to the atmosphere. The drinks whether cocktails or mocktails should be served in tall glasses or glasses that are shaped like coconuts or oranges and there just must be little drink umbrellas and straws for that Big Island look.

When the guests arrive for the luau show party, greet them with Hawaiian leis just like they would find on Big Island. Have Hawaiian music playing in the background for the whole party. This will add to the atmosphere. While planning the party check with local dance studios and find one with students who will perform a hula and / or other Hawaiian dances. As the evening wears on, light party torches and announce the dancers. The guests will be delighted at the real life luau show. Check with a few dance instructors in the area and find one that will give an hour of hula lessons to the guests. Have a camera ready because there will be ample opportunities for photos. This will be the highlight of the party.

Luaus on the Big Island always include a whole pig roasted. Well, roasting a whole pig may be more than is reasonable for the party so bring out the grill and grill up some pork ribs with grilled pineapple. Have side dishes that are Hawaiian recipes and have lots or tropical fruit in big bowls surrounded by whole pineapples and coconuts. And don’t forget the grass skirts for guests to wear and exchange as they learn to dance the Hula.
